This story was previously serialized in in Young Sports of America, Aug 10, 1895 – September 14, 1895) as "THE WIZARD OF THE DEEP; or, THE SEARCH FOR THE MILLION DOLLAR PEARL" by THEODORE EDISON.

The book editions are credited to Roy Rockwood, a house pseudonym of the Stratemeyer Syndicate. The novel is one of the “Great Marvel” series and it largely plagiarizes Jules Vernes’ 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. After a shipwreck, Mont Folsom and his companions encounter an enigmatic Captain and face perilous challenges, including battling dangerous creatures and navigating unknown waters. Dr. Homer Woddle's wisdom guides them through the mysteries of the deep sea, leading to a dramatic escape from the submarine ship, the “SEARCHER.” This tale of courage, friendship, and survival captures the essence of maritime exploration and the resilience of the human spirit.
