Sense and Sensibility is the first novel by the English author Jane Austen, published in 1811. It was published anonymously; By A Lady appears on the title page where the author's name might have been. Published anonymously in three volumes in 1811 and that became a classic. The satirical, comic work offers a vivid depiction of 19th-century middle-class life as it follows the romantic relationships of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood.
The novel has remained in continuous publication since 1811 and has been illustrated, excerpted, and abridged. It’s been adapted for screen, stage, and television.
Thomas Egerton published the first edition on October 30. 1811 using the Military Library in Whitehall, London.
