Pearl-Maiden: A Tale of the Fall of Jerusalem is a novel by the British writer H. Rider Haggard.
It was serialized in the U.S. edition of Pearson's Magazine in ten parts from July 1902 to April 1903. The first edition was published by Longman Green & Co of London, New York, and Bombay in 1903.
Haggard's faith-fortifying novel is a delicious blend of stirring events, captivating characters, and historical detail and it tells the tale of a young Christian woman, Miriam, who grew up in the Roman Empire during the first century and Marcus, a Roman officer who loves her. The climax of the novel is when she ends up in Jerusalem during the Roman siege and subsequent destruction of the city in 70 A.D.
